Development and Implementation of a Shared Vision
CAPE 1 states that “Education leaders facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision of learning and growth of all students.” This standard has three parts, “1A: Developing a Student-Centered Vision of Teaching and Learning”, “1B: Developing a Shared Vision and Community Commitment” and “1C: Implementing the Vision”. New administrators develop a collective vision that uses multiple measures of data and focuses on equitable access, opportunities, and outcomes for all students. They apply their understanding of school governance and the roles, responsibilities, and relationships of the individuals and entities within the California education system that shape staff and community involvement. While also recognizing and explaining to staff and other stakeholders how the school vision guides planning, decision-making, and the change processes required to continuously improve teaching and learning.
CAPE 1 is vital to a school because it connects directly to every single student on campus. The vision of the school impacts the culture of the school, the way situations are handled, the way teachers teach, and how students learn. What I learned is that CAPE 1 is all about bringing people together to create and develop a shared vision for the school, staff, and community. Its an opportunity for leaders to sit back and listen and allow for everyone’s voice to be heard. During CalAPA Cycle 2 I was able to do this exact thing by working with a team of teachers to discuss a problem of practice at our school site. We set goals and a shared vision in which we worked hard to achieve through working together to monitor progress. This was an extremely valuable experience because it allowed me to facilitate a community of practice on an issue at our school site that was important to address due to COVID-19.
Visible Learning Community
As a member of the Visible Learning Team, it was our job to develop a vision of teaching and learning based on the understanding of the school districts purpose. In collaboration with district staff and our visible learning team we created/adapted a presentation to communicate the school’s vision of teaching and learning to staff and stakeholders which directly relates to CAPE 1.
Administrative Rule/Policy Paper
CAPE 1 explains how school plans, programs, and activities support the school’s vision to advance the academic, linguistic, cultural, aesthetic, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical development of each student. In education, Data Protection and the General Data Protection Regulation Policy, is essential because it ensures students’ and teachers’ data are not disclosed without permission from that particular student or data (owner of data). The GDPR policy was implemented in 2018 to ensure that educational organizations that process online and offline data of students and other staff safeguards this data, thus boosting individuals’ privacy rights. This means that through GDPR policy, students’ data are fully protected from unauthorized access. The article explores the impacts of GDPR policy on learners and the learning process in education.
